Indeterminate Colitis

This is a descriptive term used, where doctors are uncertain about the diagnosis, for disease in patients whose colitis (colonic inflammation) has features which are consistent with Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis, but not definitively diagnostic of one or the other. Usually this becomes clearer in time but sometimes patients and there doctors have to live with this uncertainty until the disease develops characteristic features of one disease or another.
